e-mealz

My life is so crazy most of the time and one of the things that I really hate doing the most is planning a week's worth of groceries.  So I found e-mealz...they give you recipes for a week and an organized grocery list.  And the recipes I've had so far are easy and tasty!  It is a cheap $5/month and saves tons of time and even money as you aren't buying a lot of extra things since all is planned out for you!  Interested?  E-MEALZ Easy Meals for Busy and Frugal Families

My toddler and her stuck legs!!!

So my second dilemma that I am going through recently (see prior post for my current medical drama) is that my 17 month old daughter is constantly getting her leg stuck in her crib.  It is making me absolutely crazy!!!  She does it usually when we put her down for a nap and she doesn't want to go to sleep or when she wakes up in the morning or after a nap and is jumping around in her crib playing.  All of a sudden the baby monitor will go from sweet babbling to a blood curdling scream.....I run in their immediately to find her leg, almost always her right leg, stuck in the crib bars all the way past her knee.  Her legs are just the right size to easily fit through the bars but to not easily come back out.  I have to use Vaseline and then sometimes use all my strength to pull the bars apart to free her leg....poor girl has a bruise on both sides of her knee that is always there because she constantly does this.

I feel like an absolute horrible mom as I can't figure out how to make her stop.  We tried a tip I found on ehow.com in which you weave mesh cabinet liner in between the crib bars.  That worked for a little while until she figured out how to step up on it and about fell out of the crib onto her head, so we took it down (figuring a head injury would be worse than a leg injury).  Next, we decided to take her mattress out of the crib and put it on the floor.....this led to a battle trying to keep her in bed and even in her bedroom.  She can open her door and a baby gate doesn't fit in her doorway well (we have strange bedroom doors in our house).  After a battle for I don't know how long, I finally put the mattress back in the crib.  I have looked online for solutions and mostly just find mesh bumper pads which wouldn't help in my case as she would either stick her foot under it or over it.  Sometimes she even stands in the crib and sticks her knee through the bar that way.  The only solution I have found is called a BreathableBaby CribShield Mesh Liner - White but I can't find it in stock ANYWHERE, even online.  So I think tomorrow I am going to go hunt for some material and attempt to make my own....we will see how it works.  I never had this problem at all with my son so it is making me crazy.....if any of you have any tips, please share!!!!

Life is nuts!!!

I promise I haven't fallen off the face of the earth!  Life is just keeping me busy.  For the past several weeks I have been dealing with a flare in an undiagnosed medical condition.  I think I will share my story in case other readers may be experiencing similar problems.  My symptoms started back in February 2010.  One morning I woke up and my entire back and chest was super tight and painful and I had numbness in my left arm.  I didn't think I was having a heart attack because I was having pretty specific pain spots in various places, however, as the day progressed it didn't get any better and the anxiety was getting higher and higher so I went in to urgent care.  The doctor did not even do any heart testing, said I wasn't having a heart attack, pushed on my back in a few places and felt muscle spasms all over my back.  He also diagnosed me as having costochondritis which is inflammation in the rib cartilage. Prescribed muscle relaxants which I never picked up because I'm sure they would knock me out and then I couldn't take care of the kids.  Anyway, the spasms eventually calm down to a tolerable level within a week or so but never completely go away and I have what I call "flares" of the above symptoms every 1-2 months it seems since.  This past time, I also was experiencing heart palpitations and ended up on a 48 hour heart monitor which didn't come up with anything bad.  It has been very frustrating as the doctors don't seem to want to find a cause to any of this and just say it is anxiety related or sleep deprivation.  They tell me to stretch....which I have done countless times and it does nothing.  My next step is to try Precision Neuromuscular Massage Therapy which is something I researched on my own without help from the doctors.  It just seems strange to me that I have NEVER had these symptoms before and now they are all of a sudden here.  I stopped my birth control pills which I've never really done well with anyway and stopped consuming products with aspartame as I used to drink several Diet Coke's a day.  So far that seems to have helped a little.  So that is my current excuse for being off my blog for awhile....was dealing with a flare up (the longest one so far).

Sammich Trees!

Matthew was eating a sandwich the other day.  We eat whole grain bread and he has never really paid attention to it in the past.  However, this time, he pulled out what looked like a sunflower seed and asked what it was.  In attempt to not make a big deal out of it (in fear that he would decided he didn't like this type of bread anymore), I nonchalantly said "it's just a seed, eat it, it's very good for your body."  He thought about it for a good 30-45 seconds, then his eyes became huge and I was afraid he was going to say "ewwww grosssss" but instead he says "Wow! I want to grow a sammich tree!!"

Catching up must be impossible!

I did not intend to disappear for so long!  We went on vacation last week, and even had internet access....I intended to work on my blog during that time off but it didn't happen.  We got to our destination point and discovered that the laptop would not even turn on!  Since we've been back, we have been busy getting things back to normal(including my laptop).

The kids did pretty well traveling, but Lauren has 4 molars coming in all at once and they must have been causing the most pain during that vacation stretch so she (and I) hardly slept at all.  Which really stinks since I was hoping to actually catch up on my sleep that I don't get normally with my crazy work schedule!

So in reality, my intentions were to do a lot with this blog and catch up on sleep during vacation and neither happened.  However, it was still a good vacation overall!  Now it's time to catch up on the messy house again...didn't I just do that before we left?  I guess it's all part of the circle of life!!

Sleep-it's overrated!

I am one of those people who really, really LOVES to sleep....however, since I have had kids, sleep has pretty much become a dream in itself!  For the past year, I have been working from home but since I still work for a company and not myself I have set hours.  My job is fairly flexible with hours however and I thought it would be a great idea to save money by not having a babysitter anymore......maybe not the wisest decision.  I now work until 3am and sometimes later if work is short staffed.  Then I still have to get up in the morning when the kids get up as my husband is off to work by 7:30 am.  Now this wouldn't be so bad if it was only on occasion but I do this every single week several days per week and I'm getting exhausted.  This morning I didn't get off work until 4am and Lauren was awake at 6:53....seriously???  I was so tired this morning and knew I just had to have a huge cup of coffee but I was too tired to even make it!  It was 10am before I finally dragged myself into the kitchen to make my coffee!

What do the rest of you do?  Do you work outside of the home or have a babysitter of some sort?  For those of you who work from home, how many hours of sleep do you average at night?  I am just curious if I am out of my mind for doing this type of schedule or if there are others of you out there who are as sleep deprived as I am!
